Federation of Ontario Public Libraries appoints Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors of the Federation of Ontario Public Libraries is very pleased to announce the appointment of David Allen as Chief Executive Officer effective May 5, 2008.

David is experienced in developing and leading planning processes, implementing programs and services, advocating and communicating effectively with corporations, foundations, and all levels of government. Having worked for various not-for-profit, charity, and well known corporations David’s experiences and accomplishments include:

• Chief Operating Officer for Roots of Empathy - stewardship of major grants and cultivating relationships with corporations and foundations that support social innovation;

• President and CEO of Variety,  The Children’s Charity; recovered the organization from financial crisis; received 2005 Business Excellence Award from the Scarborough Chamber of Commerce;

• President and CEO of the Canadian Hearing Society - strengthened funding sources, when most agencies were losing government funding, CHS’s funding almost doubled;

• Management consultant - specializing in the not-for-profit sector, first with Woods Gordon/Ernst & Young and later with KPMG, 8 years experience, including marketing, business development initiatives, proposals, reports, etc.

David continues to contribute to his community, as he currently volunteers as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the new Mississauga Halton Community Care Access Centre.

The Board is confident that with his appointment as the Federation’s first Chief Executive Officer, David will make a significant contribution to the work of the Federation on behalf of public libraries across the province.
